Terry Jones

How long have you been with Team Results?

I am not sure but it must be at least 3 years, working with all the coaches and Philip Lawrence.

Why do you do what you do?

Quite simply, because i enjoy it. I really do like meeting new clients and helping them to put their “house in order” financially and then helping them review their aims and objectives on a regular basis until they achieve their ultimate goals whatever they maybe.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

When i sold/merged my business in 2003 I wasn’t sure how many of my existing clients (and there were many fortunately!) would move with me to Parker Castle (Financial Management) Ltd. I am pleased to say that i cannot remember “losing”! 1 client because of the move and because I am now fully focused on my clients and am not distracted with running the business, I believe I am a better adviser. The transition however was difficult, it was hard to let go and a real challenge.

What areas do you specialise in?

In basic terms I specialise in dealing with “ordinary” people/small businesses and helping them with their needs in respect of pension planning, investment planning, individual and business protection etc.. so that they are hopefully better placed to achieve their goals. When i say ordinary, in some cases I also mean high net worth, and you would like to think that I have has some influence in them achieving their financial aims. Hopefully I also present things in an understandable format and not laced with jargon.!!

What is your personality type?

A difficult question to answer! I think I am a “people person” as part of my job is meeting some 10 to 12 new clients every month and getting to know what does AND does not make them and their businesses tick. I am and have to be of the highest integrity because of FSA (Financial Services Authority) rules and get a real genuine buzz out of helping people on the way to achieving their financial goals.

Biggest frustration in your industry?

Apart from FSA,HMRC and the government moving the legislative goalposts, often with little or no notice, the biggest frustration is meeting a client you know you can help if only he would get off the “hamster wheel” for a while and deal with basic issues so I can go away and make and see the recommendations through to a satisfactory conclusion. Bearing in mind it is the client who has originated the meeting in the first place, so effectively he or she has cried for help, fortunately it doens’t happen to often!!
